Far into OBRC territory here. You've been warned - no apologies and no complaints about wasting your time looking at ugly cars :D

'77 Fiat 128 - Why drive a Lada when you can have the real thing?

http://bringatrailer.com/2009/11/22/1977-fiat-rally-128-special-abarth-look-coupe/

'71 Datsun 510 coupe - My Datsun can only dream...

'75 Cosworth Vega - Think Euro--hip Smokey and the Bandit (expecting mucho flak on this one)

http://bringatrailer.com/2009/11/22/clean-and-original-1975-cosworth-vega/

'69 Toyota Corona - Makes me think about another trip to California

Like the Fiat.
Love the Cosworth Vega.
datsun 510, has potential, needs a lot to be cool though.
Corona looks cool, but a dog I'm sure.

I like the Corona best by far, though the auto would prevent me from actually buying it if I had the cash.

The 510 is pretty cool.

The Vega pretty cool for a domestic.

The Fiat, amazing, doesn't do much.

I too like the Corona...the engine bay is so clean, also say no to automatic.

The 510 I like a lot. I used to own a red 510 in my younger days. Great car.

Cosworth Vega is rare, but small domestic is not my cup of tea.

Fiat, fix it again Tony doesn't do much either.

I would love that Corona. I would molest the power train with something with more oomph and manual gear selection, but other than that, perfect.

How about this M6?

http://bringatrailer.com/2009/11/16/bat-exclusive-clean-1988-bmw-m6/

M6 is way too mainstream for an OBRC thread John.

Not getting the lack of interest in the Fiat but to each their own. Here's a car that's been fully restored and autocross prepped by a Fiat nut. Club award winner. Puts over 170 hp to the wheels while weighing about 1700 lb. Styling is from the same group that spread to early Bimmers, the Datsun 510, and the Eastern Bloc classics. Guy likely has $30k in the car and you can pick it up for under $10k. I'd lose the goofy stickers and rock this.

Only down side I can see is the FWD, since the long time ownership by the Fiat nut should have addressed all the stereotypical Fiat issues and made this car no worse than any other 30+ year old car. Having said that, it does have less weirdness factor than the Vega or Saab 96, and is substantially pricer than, and not as good looking as the Corona.

Paul - you are showing your OBRC sympathies. Come out of the closet and join the club!

Italian on the menu today...

For interest only since it's in California and has sold already: 1968 Fiat 124 - boxy, slow, very basic, but I like these.

http://bringatrailer.com/2009/12/07/italian-box-car-3-owner-1968-fiat-124-sedan/

Locally, this 1982 Lancia Zagato Beta, if you are looking for a great looking but soul destroying money pit of mechanical unreliability and rusty doom. A crazy girlfriend would likely be cheaper and more satisfying in the long run. Nice to see a local Lancia turn up though.

2 things. I don't think it qualifies as OBRC. Its an Audi Quattro, talk about a HUGE following! Also, BaT lists it as a Ur-Quattro, but its not. Its a regular old US spec coupe quattro. Still rarish, but a genuine Ur-Quattro is a rare as all hell, and worth a pile of cash. They had the shortened wheelbase, etc.

I realize it's just a regular Quattro, but I'd still argue for it. Huge following in Europe, but hardly on the radar in North America these days as far as I know. Of course I don't lurk on any Audi forums so if you show me a bunch of Quattro clubs I'd have to back down.

edit: did a bit of Quattro research, and apparently Quattro and ur-Quattro are used interchangeably for the first generation quattro-equipped coupes produced 1981-90. Only something like 650 of these in NA from 1983-86 The short wheelbase version is known as the Sport Quattro, and was a Group B homologation.

I've sent a proposed first draft of admissible cars to Chris for his comments. Would be fun to circulate the draft through the group, let everyone think about it, then sit around with the group to argue the cars on the list, preferably fueled by alcohol. I think the current rules state cars get in with a vote from 50%+1 of the membership, so with the current 6 members, each car would need 4 yes votes to get in. Worth floating the idea on the club page?

We have 6 members?

My 2 cents - in real life, if some random dude show up with a Quattro and wants to 'hang', I for one won't give him a punch in the head. It's boxy and dorky enough, not to mention mechanically costly enough to qualify.

Yep, 6 members strong - you, me, Al, Kirin, Blake and Ryan Cole. Check out the page under Social Groups (find under Quick Links on the menu bar). You need to add a shot of the Skoda and a few other choice OBRC candidates to the album in any case.

I'd punch a Quattro coupe owner in the head. My vote goes to no for allowing those cars in. If you allow the coupe quattro, then the Coupe GT is next, and then its all downhill into Audi Dudiville. I hate those cars. haha

There's only one reason why i hate Audi's with a passion.

It's because I owned 2.

The first one was a mistake and the second one was to see if they were all that bad. Yes they are all that bad!!! They were both turbos, and performed decent, but I would never want one again. Nothing ever wears out, everything just all of a sudden breaks.

The one reason that I hate Audi with a passion, is that I used to work for them. Imagine fixing Germany's crappiest car, day in and day out, for 4 years.

We used to joke about them in the dealer, by saying "Audis never break down, they will always get you to the repair shop".

What do they know, they love 60s British stuff? I do like the haiku.

I agree the price is totally out to lunch. For that price I'd pick up that 1968 Toyota on the local CL and drop in a modern engine for something 100x cooler. But since I don't imagine anyone taking most of these entries seriously around here, I don't worry about the price. And, complaining that it is slow and boring to drive is beside the point, since almost any 70s Japanese car is slow.

It's all yours Chris, I'd love to see it locally and can't swing it at present. You might have to put up with me harrassing you on a regular basis to sell it to me though.

Once you have it, you could do scientific tests to determine how many people could distinguish between a SAAB and a Skoda.

I'm always surprised at the lack of enthusiasm for BMWs of almost any description on BAT. They love muscle cars, trucks, Porsches, almost anything British, and go compleletely nuts over anything Italian. But, aside from 02s, BMWs generally get neutral to hostile comments.

Fiat 124 Spyder (http://regina.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1972-FIAT-124-Spyder-w-Parts-car-NEED-GONE-W0QQAdIdZ221494803#) Who doesn't like a vert really?

Merkur XR4TI (http://regina.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1986-Merkur-XR4Ti-W0QQAdIdZ221795604) Perfect for giving Buck Rodgers a lift back to the eighties. Too Bad about the autotragic.

80 MG MGB (http://regina.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-Dependable-and-Fun-1980-MG-MGB-Convertible-W0QQAdIdZ222934858) Used to see a lot more of these around here.

64 MG MGB (http://regina.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1964-MG-MGB-Convertible-W0QQAdIdZ216218660) I'd love this one. Evil thoughts.

The more I see of these the more convinced I am this will be my eventual Italian car purchase.

Even better if I could bring it back from LA in this:

Which I could then park on the street in front of my house as an extra 'garage', for all-around win!
