I love that exhaust haha; generic dual tip. Sweet car when I saw it in person, surprisingly mint too!

Here's another one.

Oh wait, that's mine.
I need to carry my camera around with me, since I regularly spot cars that should go into this thread.
Chris - you must have a better photo of the Skoda than that.

There is a guy in North Van near my old high school who has a (or possibly two) Saab 92/93/96's. I don't know which one, but I think it's a 50's or 60's era? I will try to take a picture next time I drive by. He's had at least two over the 4 years I went to that school.

Cool, I haven't seen any of those around locally. Belive it or not, they made 96s up until 1980 or 81.
This one is for Chris - lover of Yugos AND Hyundai Ponies

A bit of an East Van wreck that I always pass on my way to breakfast on the weekend. Looks a little too far gone to save.

I really like Hyundai Ponies of that vintage. My neighbor (who is batshit crazy) used to have one. The green paint was faded to mint green. She junked it prematurely (because she was batshit crazy).
There was one on craigslist a year ago out in abbotsford that had been stored for a good portion of its life in a garage and was like new. I would have bought it if I hadn't just bought my datsun. it was under a grand.

Volvo 122S spotted a few blocks from my house and photographed by my wife no less (boy do I love my wife!). It's pretty beat up, but the colour is pretty unique (what do you even call this? Pantyhose?) and the gold badging is cool. Haven't seen one like this before.

Also, this random Alfa 164 that parked beside me at the meat last Thursday while Art and I were waiting for others to show. Guy just went into CanTire.

The only thing I love more than a mint restored classic is a daily driven and enjoyed classic. If it's 20, 30, 40 years old, there's no shame in showing some battle scars!
This was my last car:

Totally agree. Don't get me wrong, I don't insist on show cars - far from it. It's just that the Pony and 122 were both getting well past driver status and into beater status. I don't like seeing these cars go past the point of no return. The 122 photo doesn't show it but the interior was shredded and the rockers had some perforations. Still restoreable at this point but not for much longer.
I have a soft spot for Datsuns too. I had a really crappy $300 Datsun 210 through the winter and liked the car although it was a basket case.

I love the 122s. They may very well be The Best Car Ever Built. I have the 1970 122S my father bought in 1971 after he totaled his 1962 model. It has been parked since 1978. It rolled over 400,000 miles in 1978 and sat with a crunched rear fender for the next decade until we decided to restore it. (In the meantime he found another 1970 model, which I learned to drive in it, and got as my first car. That one served me well until I got a more modern Volvo -that 122 was a quick little car and smoked many an expensive sporty car back in the day.)
Dad had the crunched bodywork on his 122 repaired and put on IPD suspension parts, and then it sat waiting to be finished. Dad gave it to me a few years ago, and I have kept it in storage waiting to have enough money to finish it.
Dad died on St. Patrick's Day this year, and now I have to get it done. I know he would have loved to have seen his old 122 back on the road -I'm just sorry I never got it done while he was alive.

Nice story Dean. I'm sure it will feel great when you get the car back on the road. Sorry to hear about your Dad.

Hawaiian edition:
You know, I would have guessed there were more cool old cars to be found in Hawaii. You know, not too much rain, never snows. Turns out to be a bit of a car wasteland. The huge rental fleet makes for the highest concentration of Jeep Wranglers, Mustang verts, PT Cruisers, and generic domestic sedans (I had a Mercury and didn't even realize they were still being made) I've ever seen. As for older cars, I'm assuming it's the sun and proximity to the ocean that accounts for all that oxidized paint and failed clear coat. Not just Chrysler products either, but Mercs, Nissans, you name it.
I did see a few VW Things and a nice XJS, but the only real keeper was this beauty, a 60s Volvo Duett (P210). A bit too truck-like for me to ever consider personally but it definitely gets a lot of love. Sort of an early Swedish suburban. Great wood panelling in the cargo area!

There used to be a Duett identical to that one, just down the road from me. The same guy had a 144 and a Datsun 1200 sedan. All of those disappeared when he got into early VW campers.

There was drooling over a Scirroco in another thread, so I thought I would post a few pictures from the Knox Mountain Hillclimb in Kelowna on the long weekend.

But my favourite car was the fastest doorslammer this year:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4059/4647915336_2f7c212eca.jpg
but then I am a Volvo fanatic :D
The Volvo was even quicker than the F2000 and Spec Racer formula cars. There's just nothing like turbo power...
Sadly the Caterham Seven with the 254hp Hayabusa engine (1100 pounds or so...) was a bit quicker - mind you there was a former Can-Am racer driving it.
That was the 53rd running of the hillclimb. Spectator turnout was down this year, so I can only hope it continues on for a few more years. I want to be running in it, not spectating. There were plenty of racers, but they had a hell of a time finding enough corner workers. It's been a May long weekend tradition for me for many years, and nowadays I get to drag my young son along.
One more:

This MGB GT V8 is the doorslammer record holder, but it couldn't match the Volvo this year...
The next fastest sedan to the Volvo this year was a second generation Honda Prelude-a beat up ice racer, turboed and on propane. It's the FWD record holder, just a bit slower than the Volvo.

Very cool Volvo, and the aero on the MG GT is wild!
I'd heard about the Knox hillclimb and thought about going but couldn't manage it. How is the viewing for spectators? Watching a single turn for hours isn't too appealing but if you can see some decent stretches and moving around to different viewpoints isn't too difficult it might make for a good club outing next year.

There are viewing areas up and down the hill, but you have to climb...I think you would be stuck all day if you drove up. There used to be a bus, way back when, but I didn't see one this year. There are a few good viewing areas up and down the hill. I usually do the start, turn one hairpin and turn two hairpin. There is a beer garden down by the start as well. There is a park with a parking lot a bit below the top, and a viewpoint and hiking trails at the very top (which is the finish).
The big question for me is whether the low spectator turnout this years breaks the organizers. I hope not.
I'm not sure it's an event for everybody. It's something rally fans would appreciate. I would consider it as a part of a day event with something else planned. But you never know...don't let me discourage anyone.
