Following in the footsteps of the great Poon, I'm assembling local CL finds here. I can only dream that one day, someone other than Chris and I will bite on one...

All of these are NA by the way, with text just copied from the ads in case they are removed.

Today's offerings:

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/van/cto/1594210457.html

1963 Volvo 122. White 2-door body & interior in excellent condition. No rust or bondo. Stored in garage unused for last 20 years. Painted just prior to storing. B-18 engine with only 35,000 miles on it. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better body than this. Bumpers, trim, & grill are not mounted, but are included. Car is located in Coquitlam, BC. Please e-mail serious inquiries or offers only. Please include your phone number if you would like me you call you to talk about it. I will e-mail more photos on request. Thanks.

Looks pretty nice although why not fix that flat before taking a for sale shot? I prefer the boxiness of the later series, but these are cool cars.

and,

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rds/cto/1593559793.html

'85 burgundy peugeot turbo new everthing but needs a head gasket. Crack in the windshield. It runs I've been told $600 to $800 for a head gasket jo by Marc's in burnagy.

Ah, the famouse 'it needs a head gasket' line. One of my favourites. Windshield will be worth a few bucks too. Still, if it is a standard I'd consider it as a driver if I was in the market, even though it's burgundy. These are basically Peugeot's answer to the e28.

Some British content. I know little about these cars except that their reputations are not great. Still, I'll add them to the mix.

1970 Triumph Stag vert, $8,000:
TRUE 4 SEATER CONVERTIBLE GT WITH SOFT AND HARD TOP,3L V8 ENGINE ,MANUAL TRANSMISSION,R H DRIVE SHOW CAR OF THE 90s,STORED DRY SINCE PURCHASE. GREAT BODY AND INTERIOR. TOTAL COST $8K-SELL FOR BEST OFFER/BEST TRADE/OR WILL PART OUT.

- Obnoxious add with no photos. They are pretty stylish looking at least.

1974 Austin Marina, $2,000:

1974 Austin Marina automatic. Low original miles, new alternator. Sacrifice price. I am the third owner and have most of the documentation on the car from day 1. Definitely a fun car to ride around and be seen in.

- I'm pretty sure I've seen this described as one of the worst cars ever in a few places. But, it looks cool if you don't have to rely on it as regular transport.

Plus from Germany, this $10,000 1971 Bav. Wow. Where is Sedro Wooley?

i have 1 of a kind 1971 bmw 2800 bavaria very rare if u like call me at 360-421-9260
Location: sedro woolley

Chris - keep this ad in case you ever need to defend your car's value to ICBC.

Another Volvo - 1971 144 s project for $1000:

body kit, alluminium rims, 96 interior, twin carbs, cams, 5 speed M1 gear box with overdrive in every gear, body in great shape, disc brakes all around, new feul pump was daily runner until carbs started over flowing. i have original single carb and header in the trunk that the car passed air care with but i think the carbs just need to be cleaned and synked other than that it's a great car that just needs someone to give her a new life, I have all kinds of paperwork from over the years that will give you the list of what has been done to this car. thanks for looking call craig @ 604 940 9266

No photo, but sounds unusual enough to be interesting. How is your dual carb wizardry?

i know the car. there can't be too many of it around that sound exactly the same

my aquaintance from school bought this car like 2-3 years ago (once i bought my volvo and he fell in love with it) and then sold it after a while to some gypsies. funny enough the same people i bought that e21 parts car from. its probably gone through a few other owners since.

-body kit is crude at best. but is "unique"
-4 wheel disc brakes where standard on ever volvo since almost the beginning (my 1972 volvo 142s had them. go suck a dick american companies to still rock drums)
-the aluminum wheels look like e12/e21 turbines
-needs paint.
-engine is the standard 2.0L b20 motor. its a beast.
-it used to have a downdraft weber on it but since that thing actually poured out gas (to the point of being dangerous) i guess the previous owner swapped out for the stock dual strombergs (or SU's, i cant remeber)
-should be a 4 speed manual. so must be swapped for a mid 80's 5 speed manual
-interior is a newer navy blue one, but still in "unique" condition
-it was said to have cams. but just as a word of mouth. never documented.

Another 122/Amazon..

1965 Volvo 122 - $3500

Listing this for a friend. This Volvo was his father's and he'd had it restored in the last few years. My friend inherited it a year ago and hasn't driven it more than 5 times. He now wants it gone. His loss is your gain.
It's a 1965 Volvo 122s 2 door coupe. It is dark grey (gun metal) with red leather interior. I haven't seen it in person, but from all accounts, it is mint. Will need a carb adjustment to get it running smoothly, but this is certainly a deal for the right person.
He's not interested in dickering over price, hence the low $3500. If I had the money, I'd buy it myself. I offered to put it on eBay but he'd be happy to have it leave tomorrow or sooner.

I love 1-owner cars. This one sounds like it has potential, although the ad copy is a bit flakey.

The hood (no chrome strip) and headrests suggest it is actually a '69 or '70 model, unless someone has updated it. If it is a '69 or '70 it would have the B20 engine, and would be a reasonably quick little car.
I wish the pics were bigger. This looks just like my '70 122S in B.R.G. with brown interior...

So this one is more OCAC than CECC, but I still have a soft spot for early Japanese cars - 1970 Corolla.

Looks mighty sweet, and is even a standard unlike most of these I see.

I like some early Japanese cars, particularly Mazdas and Datsuns, but somehow $4500 for a Corolla just seems nuts. Even a pristine shiny new turd is still a turd...:D
For that money it had better have a hair drier or 16 valves under the hood...
especially when that sweet Merkur was available for only $400 more!

True enough, but once a car hits 40 years old the original performance criteria don't really apply any longer. If the car is in minty condition, you wouldn't want to go out and thrash it in any case, and the price is less than a third of what it would cost to restore one (which would never happen because who restores a 1970 Corolla?).

This would be something to amble around in, in town, on sunny weekends. I wouldn't spend my $4500 on it, but I would be happy to see one around or take it out for a spin.

Collector cars should have some redeeming feature -quirkiness, sportiness, nostalgic attachment or something. If this was your first car, or you got lucky in one way back when...maybe it could be worth having. This one is the epitome of blandness as far as I am concerned.

Fact - many if not most Skoda Estelles in the UK had vinyl roofs, thus vinyl roofs = cool.

Besides, what car isn't improved with a vinyl roof?

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/bnc/cto/1655019427.html

For Sale 1987 Peugeot 505 GLX Sedan V6, Automatic Transmission

63,000 Original Miles, Original Owner

Auto locks, air conditioning, air cared

Excellent condition, Well Maintained

The 505 was praised by contemporary journalists for its ride and handling,
especially on rough and unmade roads; perhaps one reason
for its popularity in less developed countries

I mean, I like these and all, but this would have to be the e30 M3 of 505s to justify this price.

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rds/cto/1659803280.html

Looks to be in nice shape and has a very cool colour. Too bad it's auto, and uncommon enough that an engine/tranny swap means messing with a fairly rare survivor. This was the final year of production.

I'd likely still say 'screw it' and put in something fun to make a pipe & slippers sleeper. Plenty of room in there for a V8 or turbo redblock.

Again, more OCAC than CECC, but I like it. - 1982 Toyata Starlet for $3k.

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rch/cto/1656356224.html

Unique find, rare 1982 Toyota Starlet, perfect restoration/race prep project car. Was planning on adding this to the collection of rally cars, but leaving the country and have to part with it.

Only 1 rust spot in the rear, otherwise mint body.

Comes with the following:

- AutoMeter Monster Tach, Oil pressure light, Shift light
- Rear wheel bearings, seals
- Complete wheel cylinders
- Front and Rear brakes
- Overhaul kit for the 4K engine, 1300cc
- All original interior available
- Fiberglass wide body fender arches
- 4 Superlight alloy rims and tires (Yokohama 032's)

And for those that don't think a car like this could be fun? Watch and learn...

Happy Choice!

Honestly though, I think I'm missing something. As far as I can tell, the Starlet was not some A-list rally beastie - Toyota ran mostly with Celicas and Corollas. It's not even a foreign import as these apparantly were sold here, so I'm not sure where the $3000 comes from.

If it were a full rally conversion with roll cage etc...then its understandable. I think I'd also prefer the motor over the drive wheels for this sort of duty - I'll live with torque steer and overall 'feeling' in exchange for superior off road and inclement weather traction.

Perhaps I should rip out the dash of my Skoda, buy some rally bits and ask $5000 - at least the Estelle competed in Group B.

Someone please correct me!

Well I hadn't looked at the additional photos before so didn't see that this was an unfinished project. If it was all put together and ready to go it would likely be worth the money, but not as-is. I just liked the fact that it is fairly uncommon and had some performance cred.

Despite the recent VW bashing, I'd drive one of these. Guess I'd need to pick up a hoodie too. Low miles 1971 VW Type 3 Square back.

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/van/cto/1675087631.html

Volkswagen VW Square back Type 3
It is with GREAT reluctance that I am selling this car
It has 20,000 original miles and was parked in a garage for 20 years!
It has an engine knock but has not run in many years.
Original paint
Rocker panel rust and some rust around head-light
The interior is like new with the exception of one place on the passenger seat back that needs repair
If you are looking at this you know how rare this car is.
With very little work you can be driving this car!
When is the last time you have seen one of these?
Serious inquires only please. Leave your phone number and I will get back to you after the Easter weekend

Serious project type issues, and non-local. OK, not very realistic but I guess the Blues Brothers had a bigger impact on me than I suspected.

I like the old type 3 notchbacks myself, but I pretty much like anything Euro from the sixties. When I was a teen I had a huge stack of old "Foreign Car Guide" magazines (late 50s through mid 60s) that featured all the odd cars of the sixties, and those were the cars that my family members and my Dad's friends drove when I was a kid. Of course those are the cars that I now want...
The type 3 Notch, early Corvairs, Saabs and old Volvos did well in the winter rallies that were common back in the day. Where are those fun events now?

This thing has to go. It's too cool to go to the wrecker. All I want is for it to go to someone who is interested enough to do something with it. Make me an offer, you might be surprised.

Beautiful 264-GL 4 door sedan. 3rd owner, originally from Victoria. White/Beige leather interior, power windows. Skylight. All original and eligible for collectors plates. Was my daily driver until a year ago. I just don't need a car. It will need oil/tranny fluid/battery charge in order to drive. Ideally this should go to someone who is INTO Volvos. 604 258 8590

Minty blue with beige leather for that Swedish Godfather feeling. Cheep and I agree it's far too cool for the crusher. I don't know these very well but believe it has the PRV V-6, which is far from the Volvo redblocks in the reliability dept. I remember seeing this for sale quite a while ago.

Eagle Premier - sure it's basically a Renault, styled by Giugiaro, and (according to Wikipedia) has almost 9" of suspension travel for off-road hijinks, but somehow I'd still go with an Eagle 4x4 wagon with faux woody trim for pure 80's AMC goodness.

VW 412 - very cool. I'm in Brazil at the moment and am really digging a few sporty early 80s VW hatches. Wish I knew what they were or at least had a camera with me so I could do some documenting.

Here is a rare opportunity to own a unique car that has very low orig km, registered in BC and it is aircared too...
5 sp. manual, 4door, exterior colour navy green interior cloth black/grey.

Due to personal urgent needs I am forced to sell this car.

I will post pics soon.

Please reply if you are interested.
For those who are not familiar with this car please take your time and google it, if not, do not waste my time with silly questions. I wont give any mechanical or history lesson.

You are more than welcome to view it. Garaged in Vancouver-West End.
Accepting decent offers for a kind of a vehicle.

99% chance its this car (the top 2 pics)

http://www.classiceuropeancarclub.com/skoda.htm

10/10 for colour - paint was randomly faded, some rust, just barely passed aircare....still....

This is of course carbed, and I *think* it still has swing axle rear suspension...which makes it a different experience!

That was my first thought, but how could you describe that first car you saw as navy? OK, maybe navy-green makes sense in the original Czech but come on.

Yep - its a 120 GLS - so it should have the swing axles...but there is always the outside chance that it being top of the line and/or Cdn spec...it may have something different.

Still...it is indeed the one I had seen, and although interested myself, the seller tells me $4000-$5000 is what he's looking for...so....at this point, I won't be adding a second Skoda to the fleet!

Even if it's perfect, $4-5,000 for a Skoda is just wrong. Maybe if it was a convertible...
I saw one of the factory convertibles in Summerland for a car show a while back. Pretty cool, but the owner figured it was a Ferrari or something :-)

$650 '84 Renaule leCar, with issues

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/van/cto/1701574634.html

We are selling our little Renault 5. We love this car but it needs to go. Overall the car is in good contion. Very little rust, sun roof, great on gas etc. Over the past couple years we have replaced both engine mounts, new head gasket, installed speakers, replaced lights and more. The bad: there is one dead cylinder. this makes the car a little gutless and after a while the muffler starts to smoke. This would need to be looked at before going through aircare. Could also use a new muffler. Other than that this would make a great little project or parts car. We hate to see it go but hope it finds someone who is willing to fix up or knows something about mechanics as we know nothing. $650.

Wasn't somebody looking for one of these? No idea how expensive rebuilds get on these.

You should know us better Paul:) How many of the cars we post have any serious horsepower? No muscle cars here, and the real hp wars didn't take off until the 90s. Of course we do have a Ferrari...

Didn't your daughter always want you to buy her a pony? Or you could get it for Swagg and never have to worry about a speeding ticket or high speed chase.

I like these too - one of the only Celicas I'd consider. Chris and I briefly included vintage Japanese cars and called the club Obscure Classics, so in shorthand this car is an OCAC car.

I'm pretty sure this car has been up for sale for a few months. Since the price is low it has me thinking there are some problems not visible in the photos.

If it was a Supra with the six it would be more interesting...I'm just not a Toyota fan myself. Many of these Celicas have been wrecked or have rusted away like all Toyotas seem to do.
If I have to have a Toyota, I'll take a second generation Supra like this:

'85 Peugot 505STI, $2750.

Clean example but for me too many strikes against it - Meh colour combo, auto, and TRXs. Also, I am obsessing about Saabs this week so my Peugot enthusiasm just isn't there at the moment.

I bought this rare survivor 8 months ago on impulse. I've been driving it once or twice a month since I got collector plates for it back in January. Insurance is about $350/year, and that's with all the optional coverages that are probably unnecessary given how infrequently I drive the car.

I know not that many people are into these French oddities (or know what a Peugeot is for that matter), but if you're a Peugeot enthusiast, you would be hard-pressed to find a nicer example around. There are very few left to begin with and most of them are on their last legs. I've seen some decent ones, but none with collector plates (most are late 80s models and wouldn't qualify).

This car is the fully-equipped STI model; the 2nd most expensive 505 after the Turbo. It has amazing-looking rims which were exclusive to the pre-86 STIs and Turbos. It's a low-mileage local car. Details are as follows:

- Burgundy with tan interior
- 4 cylinder 2.0 L (fuel-injected) with 3-speed automatic
- 125,xxx kms
- Leather seats
- Power locks, windows and mirrors (all work)
- Power sunroof (currently needs a sunroof cable)
- Heated seats which, surprisingly, work
- A/C (not tested it)
- Original radio and tape-player which works (I left it in there to qualify for collector status)
- Almost new Michelin TRX tires (these are very expensive and hard to find)
- NO rust

The car runs very well. It has a valid AirCare and has been well maintained throughout its life. Other than the sunroof cable, the only other things that require attention are the heater fan (very inexpensive to replace) and the front strut(s) which is/are worn. Marc's in Burnaby specialises in French cars and has all the parts in stock.

This is a very reluctant sale. I just moved within a minute walking distance from work, and barely need one car, let alone two. The car is not in showroom condition obviously, since it's an unrestored example, but it's one of the nicest, if not the nicest, 505s you'll find. Please email for more photos and information.

dude this HAS TO COUNT for a CECC sticker

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/van/cto/1709844214.html

Absolutely stunning '90 Carat with all the usual goodies - A/C, cruise control, power mirrors and windows and door locks, fold down bed and pop up table.

This van is stunning due to all of the following upgrades - it has a 3.3 L. 6 cylinder Subaru engine with 247 h.p. output, a 5-speed transaxle with limited slip differential and an Italian leather shift knob, Stage II clutch, upgraded suspension, H&R green coil springs, 4-wheel disc brakes and a Porsche master brake cylinder, 7,000 r.p.m. tachometer face, Michelin Pilot Sport AS+ 225/50ZR/16 tires, 2-piece BBS alloy wheels, Porsche black leather electric seats, Alpine steero w/sub woofer, IPOD connection, Bluetooth and a remote control, tinted windows, Westfalia style opening side windows w/GoWesty screens, GoWesty 2" receiver hitch and wiring harness, Didier extended door hinge, Audi leather steering wheel, black rubber mats throughout, a front bra, etc.

The replacement cost on this van is well over $38,000. The van was built by the co-owner of "The Bus Lab" located in Berkeley California, and it was built to a standard exceeding most any other Vanagon.

I've cruised with the van at a comforable 95+ m.p.h., but I've never considered determining the top speed. With the 5-speed transaxle and the super strong engine, the 7,000 r.p.m. redline and the improved tires and suspension, it would be very interesting to know the van's top speed. The torque of the engine is so strong that you can easily start out from a full stop in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear, and one of my buddies did start out mistakenly in 3rd gear with four of us inside and the van took it in stride.

The van is in very nice condition, everything works, and it is probably one of the highest performance vans in Canada if not in the USA too.

Please contact me for a viewing or for more information, gerry @ (604) 724-4396.

(If you like performance vehicles in really nice shape, my 2002 BMW Z3 M roadster is for sale in another Craigslist ad.)

Sure I'd prefer a Mk1 Escort, but this is still pretty sweet. Anyone?

Seen one on the road lately? Probably not, unless it was this one... Garage kept for it's first 30+years,and it shows... Fantastic shape for it's age!!! Ford 2.0L 4cyl. 4 speed... Comes with a TON of spare parts, literally! Current original motor is getting tired,so I'm throwing in a 0 miles 190HP 2.0L Ford racing engine too...Giddy Up!!! This capri is probably the best condition mk1 left in BC... (250) 479-0727 evenings...

Ian - not sure about where that Vanagon would fit. In general I think we'd say no to a van, just as we say no to trucks. But, we can put nominated vehicles to a membership vote, and that is a pretty awesome van. I wonder what they'd say if you showed up in that for AutoX?

There's a rough 67-8 Corvair here that the price keeps dropping on. Every few months I drive by and give it a look.:)

VERY RARE- 1990 Yugo "Cabrio" Convertable. Silver with grey interior. 30,200 miles. Stored indoors. Original owner.
5 speed standard steering, Automatic roof. Glass rear window. Original tools and extras.
This is a rare opportunity for the oddity lover! Purchased new from Italian Motors (it is the original car brought in for the Vancouver 1990 car show).
Can be "collector" listed.

Serious enquiries only.

Looks sharp, and I have no doubt this is very rare, but somehow I doubt there is a Yugo collector in town serious enough to shell out $7500. That would likely buy every other Yugo in town.

I have to say...this one does little for me, and that's not even taking the price into account...

For me at least, the regular one registers in my brain as having a couple of purposes - funky & functional alternative commuter car (easy to park, good on gas) or massive underdog autox/rally car.

I've got feelers out all over BC, there are only two 'collectors' in town... myself and another gentleman who uses them more as economy than for collectibility (I think he's the type of chap who you see with a neat car and you stop to chat and he just kind of blows you off and drives away). And seeming as I'm not about to drop 2 times the original purchase price on it... it will likely be for sale for a long while....

though there are less than 50 examples worldwide, Yugo Cabrios in the states generally go for 1500 for running and 4000 on the high end. This guy is just smoking something that I want a hit of.

Also, I just don't like convertibles very much. I would like a Yugo GLS, though - the models that had the glass sun roof. I've pondered on occasion paying a 3rd party company to install a sunroof in mine - the rag top kind found in 60's bugs and Fiat 500/600s.

Long Term Project #21 - rent a CECC Rat's Nest for members only to squirrel away our surplus automobiles...

No space to horde them? :hitit:

If anyone is seriously interested in a yugo, they should contact me... I've got the fourth one that guy was selling before. It was the nicest of the 4 he had, and I've already done all the work. All it needs to be a daily driver is for you to remove the gas tank and pay TankRenu in Langley $260 to blast and reseal it. I've driven it around until the rust in the tank started coming loose and started clogging the fuel filter. It has no rust and a good, original interior, and it would come with virtually another entire yugo in boxes (minus sheetmetal) including a full engine and transmission, a full grey interior, glass (very hard to find glass).

Someone here should go for this one...price reduced, and I've seen it - very cool little machine. For the price point, it is a deal...

What's going on? You getting out of Yugos or did you find a nicer one?

Getting out for now. As much as I love them, I've always wanted to find a quirky, underestimated vintage sedan, and I've just gotten a 1963 Rambler Classic 770. That combined with the motorcycle I'm restoring is going to make for a full schedule for the immediate and extended future. If I do sell the Yugo, I'd like whoever buys it to give me first dibs if they ever sell it again...

That's too bad, and not just because I wanted to go for a ride in your car. I just had a spot open up, but for diplomatic reasons I won't be looking at another car purchase until next spring at least. Hope it doesn't go far.

Now lets just be careful here with all the crazy talk...

Remember, its very warm out there, so its easy to get confused or disoriented. It's definitely not the time for hasty decisions and what not!

Bruce, this is the perfect replacement for the M5 - same colour/shade too!

I know! Similar colour, similar name (R5/M5), I mean it's basically the same car:D

I did have a quick fantasy about this one when I saw the ad, but that $1500 would do a lot for the Swede. Plus, my real secret plan is to make a run at Lee's car if he tries to sell it again next year. I said that out loud, didn't I? Very tempting. Someone should pick this up.
