Had the new (?!) Yugo out for the first time today (still dont have papers... don't tell the RCMP). Ran good on 8 year old gas and noisily on studded snow tires... tomorrow's schedule looks like draining a full tank of gas (again... don't tell), doing the timing properly (note: buy timing light), and prepping the rims off the old Yugo for paint.

[for those of you who don't know, the 'old' Yugo was wrecked two or so months ago and I've been working since to get my back-up Yugo running in top shape.]

Question to the masses: I've been trying to decide for many months now how to do up the wheels... for those of you unfamiliar with how Yugo wheels look, view the below pictures.

I've seen them done up having black alloys with the silver centers, and I really like it... but stock is silver on silver. Two examples below. What should I do?

my biggest issue with the stock silver/silver combo is the brake dust on the front wheels... it gets old quick! The above photo of the silver/silver is my first yugo when I first bought it. The front wheels never looked that clean again.

My vote goes to the black/silver. Looks sharp.

But, if it's just a brake dust thing, isn't there a wheel wax product you can use? I've never found brake dust to be a problem provided I wash the wheels regularly, even with much heavier cars than the Yugo.

I like it either way - stock is always safe, but the black gives it a bit more of an edge, which is useful on such a vehicle!

It wasn't on a problem on my other cars either... on my Datsun pick-up I don't think I ever had to pay special attention to the wheels and it had the same type of front disc brakes. Is it possible that there could have been excessive brake dust because of the front brakes being excessively low? I'm pretty sure that they were pretty bad (in fact, I'm pretty sure that is what caused the accident it was in). During the time that the brake dust really started being a problem, I was workng 40 hours a week and going to school 34 hours a week and I really didn't have much time to look into it. I suspect I had been driving around on dangerously low brakes for a while.

The front wheels on this yugo don't have much brake dust on them... but for all I know it might have been washed and waxed right before it was stored a decade ago.

Does anyone have a timing light that I could borrow or rent for 1-2 days?
