Another spectacular summer day at the races at Mission Raceway. Much smaller showing this year unfortunately. Possibly due to racers being relatively broke thanks to the economy, or maybe last year was just big as part of the 50th anniversary of Westwood. Either way, it's still the only game in town for vintage road racing, and $15 is much cheaper than getting to Goodwood or Monterey.

Apologies that my shots are all in the pits and VIP paddock as I don't have a telephoto lens and/or fencing was in the way. In any event, some cool vintagey cars in the VIP parking area...

The Mk.I GTI was nice, but I wasn't sure what to make of it...it had full blown ugly racing seats and the rear bench was removed, but no roll bar/cage...

Whatever gene I have that draws me to unloved car was kicking in with this TR-7 coupe. I'm not a huge TR-7 fan, but the hardtop coupe makes it cooler, and the very original looking 70s scheme puts it over the top for me!

Nice Volvos, Loti, and Bimmers, but the Cortina brings back bad memories :)
That 142 should have been running up front...must have been the driver. I love the Volvo MG! There's a Volvo powered TVR in Kelowna. I guess after a while with an English car, the reliability of a Volvo must prove to be irresistible.:D
I wish I had been there for this event.

Yes, the 142 was a driver issue. I talked to the guy and he was actually there to race his MGA, but was shaking down the 142 for his daughter. Cool family. That was the first time the brick was in a competitive event so finishing the weekend wasn't a bad accomplishment.

There was also a Volvo powered Marcos there but I didn't get a shot of it.

I think next year we'll try to organize a CECC group presence there. We could likely get our own little corner of the VIP paddock and have a BBQ.

Was that a 4 cylinder Marcos, or one of the rare 3 liter 6 cylinders? That is one of the ultimate sportscars as far as I'm concerned. Even with the low state of tune of the B30, they were very fast (and beautiful).
That looks like an event that I would make time for.

The flying pig was out. Ron said it was running better on Saturday and was having a part-throttle issue. He made some good moves but just didn't seem to have the go to keep up in the race we saw.
